VILLA BIGNAGO
Villa Bignago is a historic residence located in Arquà Petrarca, in the province of Padua, on the southern tip of the Bignago hill. Built in the 18th century, the villa stands out for its three-story structure with three orders of rectangular windows.
The central body is surmounted by a tympanum, and the façade features stone frames that frame the openings, giving the building a sober and refined elegance. During the First World War, the area surrounding Villa Bignago hosted a military airfield. In June 1918, the XIV Aeroplane Group moved there, using the nearby villa as its headquarters. The field was the scene of intense air operations, with the presence of Caproni bomber squadrons and the participation of American pilots alongside Italian crews. At the end of the conflict, the field was dismantled and the area returned to agricultural activities. In more recent times, Villa Bignago has suffered damage due to adverse weather events. Fortunately, the residence has been the subject of careful restoration by the owners, who have preserved its historical and architectural integrity. Today, the villa is in excellent condition and hosts cultural events and manifestations. For example, on September 30, 2024 it hosted the "Champagne Festival", a meeting with tastings and music that enhanced the beauty of the villa and its park.
Thanks to these restoration works, Villa Bignago continues to represent an important historical and cultural heritage for the community of Arquà Petrarca and for the entire Veneto region. The villa offers a welcoming and sophisticated environment, ideal for relaxing and enjoying an unforgettable stay. The structure is perfect for those seeking a quiet refuge away from the hustle and bustle of the city and wishing to live an authentic experience in a unique historical and landscape context. Thanks to its strategic position, Villa Bignago is an ideal starting point for visiting the wonderful art cities of Veneto, such as Padua, Venice, Verona and Vicenza, easily reachable for cultural excursions or days of discovery. Furthermore, our B&B is located in the immediate vicinity of the Euganean Hills Regional Park, a protected area that offers numerous trekking and cycling paths. Nature and sports lovers can explore breathtaking landscapes, crossing woods, vineyards and historic villages. Among the most renowned routes is the Euganean Hills Cycling Ring, an itinerary that allows you to circumnavigate the entire hill complex, offering panoramic views and stops at places of historical and cultural interest
